He will be missed by his Legion Riders Family

Post 517 Mercersburg, PA had a memorial ride for our past Commander that passed away  this year.  His dream was updating our Legion picnic grounds and he was able to finish a new food (beer) barn and it is a very nice building.  Garry wanted to do more but he was taken by our Lord.  Our riders asked if we could have a ride to raise money to make Garry’s dreams come true.  So that ride (the 1st annual) was on Sept19, 2010 and we raised $680.00!!!  The pict’s are taken from Garry’s final resting place.  We thought it would be nice to lay flowers at the grave before the ride.  Many of his family members were there. We are planning to do this ride every year and all money collected will be used for the picnic grounds in Garry memory.

It’s time to put your money where your mouth is.  And by “money” we mean “commitment” and by “mouth” we mean “mouth.”  Here’s the thing – too many riders are involved in too many crashes.  In 2009, there were 3,736 crashes, resulting in 204 fatalities in Pennsylvania.  That’s 3,736 and 204 too many.

Want to honor the fallen and keep those on two wheels on two wheels?  Then commit to being one less statistic.  To taking it easy.  On the roads, in the bars.l  Commit to Be One Less on the www.livefreeridealive.com website.

American Legion Chapter 56  from Lititz, PA and Chapter 185 from Mt. Joy PA teamed together Monday, September 13th to help American Legion Auxiliary Post 56 with their yearly Feed the Vets in the Park event.

Auxiliary Unit 56 provides a lunch in the Lititz Springs Park for Veterans from the Lebanon VA Hospital each year. The riders helped with the loading and unloading, the set-up and clean up. After the veterans had enough to eat, the riders also helped with an enjoyable bingo game.

It seemed the veterans  could not get enough of the cake, cup cakes and pies. The Auxiliary also provided homemade chicken corn soup, hot dogs with kraut, beans and macaroni salad. While the Riders were to keep the vets entertained with conversation it turns out the Riders were the ones entertained with the stories from the WWII, Korean War and Vietnam Veterans.  A great time was held by all.

On Sunday, Aug 22, 2010, Chapter 56 Legion Riders, Lititz Pa., held their 6th Annual Hospice Ride. While rainy weather earlier in the day deterred some riders there were still some that braved the rain drops and rode in support of Lebanon VA Hospice. There were approximately 50 riders that rode their bikes to the Veterans Memorial at Fort Indian Town Gap joined by another small group that drove up in vehicles. There was a short ceremony honoring our Veterans and those suffering as a result of their service. Several others joined in at the end of the ride to enjoy live music provided by Pull the Pin, over 90 door prizes given away, food and refreshments. The Chapter donated a number of the leftover food items to the Beacon House located in Akron Pa.

Iron Horse Helpers of Berks County

NDHP of York County

U.S. Military Vets MC
